Happy Father’s Day, Mum

Hello weirdos,

I have been meaning to write a more personal post for a while now and I had no idea what this could be about. Suddenly it hit me, father’s day. I have been seeing advertisements, promotions and competitions every where about this day. Now, you must be wondering what this post is about, I doubt I have many fathers as my readers.

Nope, this is for you and I. The ones’ who don’t have a dad or mum, the one’s who have step parents and of course the ones’ who have never had parents. My parents separated when I was pretty young and I lived with my mom. To me this was normal, I did not know any different and I had so many great influential people in my life.

If your parents divorced recently or in your teenage years or even older, I know the devastation it may have caused. These are things that you carry into your adult years and it’s best you don’t internalize it. Speak about it or write about it, do what ever it is that helps you.

I feel like in this day and age you cannot have a sad day or you cannot post about it. (This is not a sad day for me, it’s just another day). Everyone is always happy, nobody has issues, everyone is living their Instagram worthy best life. Wrong. Nobody has a perfect life, you just never know what they are really going through. Don’t let Instagram fool you, but be a kind human anyway.

I don’t like the phrase “be kind to people because you don’t know what they are going through.” No, be kind to all living things because you’re a good human being. Treat everyone with the same respect and kindness.

But the point of this post is to let you know, that you are not alone.

Whether you have one parent or no parents or two step moms, whatever the situation is, just know that there is no perfect family. I think if you watch Modern Family, you know this pretty well. However, we do have different family lives to those of the conventional family. For me, this is a good thing, as I feel it made me stronger. This is because my mother is probably Superwoman, I kid you not.(trying the find the red cape). I know everyone has a different experience but I hope you see a silver lining too.

The only time I get touched is when I am watching a movie about father’s and daughters. Especially when they get to to do the ever so popular father daughter dance. Even though I do not really want to get married, I mean if by a miracle it happens, would I have this dance? Maybe we should have a mother daughter dance. Feminists where are you at?

There are so many things I am grateful for in my life but my mother is at the top of that list. She is resilient and has immense strength of character. Strong women truly are the backbone of society. Hence, it is so important for me to be supportive and motivational to others.

To sum it up, I guess all I am trying to point out is that nobody has the perfect family or the perfect life. No matter how it seems from the outside. If you have missed your mother or father, I hope this post helped you. If you have never had one or only had one that disappointed you. Join the club of unconventional family’s.

I have found a bunch of weirdos that has become my family. Because family is not just blood relatives but anyone who feels like home.

Happy fathers day to all the fathers and single mums 🙂

Enjoy the spoils,

xx Miss Dhanusha
